SUMMARY:Art as a Response to Trauma
DESCRIPTION:Join docents and supporters of DVIP/RVAP to tour works of art that transcend the direct experience of trauma. Following the tour\, DVIP/RVAP invites you to join them for refreshments and a panel discussion exploring how advocates use art to support victim-survivors in their healing process and how you can help! \nThere is no fee to participate\, but all funds pledged during the event will be matched up to $30\,000 in thanks to a generous donation from our longtime supporters Mark Ruggeberg and Bob Brooks. \nRegistration is required as space is limited! Register at the attached ticket link. \nIndividuals with disabilities are encouraged to attend all University of Iowa-sponsored events. If you are a person with a disability who requires a reasonable accommodation in order to participate in this program\, please contact the Stanley Museum of Art at (319) 335-1727

SUMMARY:Denim Day
DESCRIPTION:Join DVIP & RVAP in wearing denim jeans on April 30th\, to show support for people affected by sexual assault. \nThe Denim Day campaign began in 1999 after a ruling by the Italian Supreme Court to overturn a rape conviction because the justices felt that since the victim was wearing tight jeans she must have helped the person who raped her remove them\, thereby implying consent. Following the reversal\, the women in the Italian Parliament came to work wearing jeans in solidarity with the victim. \nWe encourage you to share your photos of your Denim Day fit on social media using the hashtag #DVIPRVAPDenim\, and tag us @dvipiowa. By doing so\, you help spread the message that we stand together in the fight against sexual assault and that there is hope\, help\, and healing available.
