SUMMARY:Clothesline Project Display
DESCRIPTION:Clothesline Project Display – Johnson County\nClothesline Project – The Clothesline Project is a visual display of violence statistics that often go ignored. Each shirt displayed is made by a survivor of violence or by someone who has lost a loved one to violence. \nDuring the exhibit\, participants hear three distinct sounds. Each represents the frequency of different violence statistics. The gong is struck every 10-12 seconds to indicate a person being physically abused by an intimate partner. The whistle is blown every minute to indicate a sexual assault being reported. The bell is rung every four minutes to indicate a person dying in a violent attack.  \nThroughout the month\, community members are invited to join us in a shirt-making session and/or attend the Clothesline Project in their respective communities. To learn more about a shirt-making session near you\, please email communityengagement@dvipiowa.org. All Clothesline Project activities are free and open to the public. These items provide non-perishable foods\, hygiene products\, and more for nearly six months! \nSupporters will be able to grab a shopping list from one of our volunteers\, shop for items\, and then leave them in a designated cart at area Hy-Vee and Fareway stores. DESCRIPTION:Shop for Safety Supporter\nAdvocates and Volunteers will be at Johnson County area Hy-Vee and Fareway stores on October 17th from 9 am to 2 pm. \nThis is one of the largest in-kind donation drives of the year and provides much-needed hygiene supplies\, non-perishable foods\, and kids’ snacks to victim-survivors residing in our emergency shelter and receiving services throughout Johnson County. These supplies last up to 6 months and are vital for DVIP/RVAP’s ability to remove barriers that victim-survivors face daily.  \nSupporters will be able to grab a shopping list from one of our volunteers\, shop for items\, and then leave them in a designated cart at area Hy-Vee and Fareway stores. SUMMARY:Survivor's Stories: Generative Writing Workshop with Samantha Tuttle
DESCRIPTION:Join us for the second writing class of DVIP/RVAP’s new initiative: Survivors’ Stories\, a series of five writing classes between August 2026-July 2027. All are free and open to the public\, and survivors are encouraged to attend. \nAll classes will be trauma-informed\, and focused on themes of reclaiming one’s story\, releasing shame\, healing\, resilience\, and building community. Each workshop will last approximately 1.5 hours and conclude with an optional sharing opportunity for participants who wish to read their work aloud.\n\nA trained DVIP/RVAP advocate will be present at each session to provide support if needed.\n\nNOVEMBER 2026 CLASS DETAILS:\n\n\nDate/time: Saturday\, November 7\, 10:30am-12pm\nLocation: The Ranshaw House – 515 Community Dr\, North Liberty\, IA 52317\nInstructor: Samantha Tuttle is currently pursuing an MFA in poetry from the University of Arkansas. She has been in the survivor services space since 2020 and previously spent 2 years as a sexual assault services coordinator at DVIP/RVAP.
