COVID-19 Updates and Current Needs
The recent COVID-19 pandemic has certainly jolted all of our ways of life: as of today, 90% of the American public is under stay-at-home orders. While many of us have the option to stay at home and feel safe, victims of domestic violence do not have that option. Sheltering in place, for victims of intimate partner violence and their children, can create an even more isolating and hopeless experience: during quarantine, victims struggle to find help because they cannot access their social and community support systems. The Domestic Violence Intervention Program is here and is committed to serving victims/survivors 24/7 via our hotline (800.373.1043) and emergency sheltering program regardless of COVID-19.
Proudly serving victims-survivors of intimate partner violence for the past 40 years, the Domestic Violence Intervention Program (DVIP) has transitioned to virtual and phone-call services to serve victims who can’t leave their homes due to quarantine orders and safety concerns. Because DVIP is dedicated to keeping not only our clients but also our staff safe we have moved individuals from our communal emergency sheltering space and into temporary shelter throughout the community. Though emergency sheltering looks different it is still available! By providing smaller groups living situations individuals are able to practice the social distancing protocol and still maintain safety, resources, and advocate support during this time.
DVIP needs your help! Creating multiple virtual offices for shelter staff means we need a computer and work cell phone for each team 24-hours a day to successfully serve victims-survivors remotely. Current estimates for 3-6 months’ access and use of these tools are approximately $10,000. Please donate today by going to this link: Donate now! You can make a one-time donation or you can become a sustaining monthly, bi-monthly, or quarterly donor.
Your sustainable donations will help us to keep the phones on and advocates working to support those most vulnerable in our community.
Another way you can help is by donating household items, you can help us create homes for the families.
Most needed items:
