The Domestic Violence Intervention Program (DVIP) and the North Liberty Community Pantry (NLCP) are partnering to raise funds for youth programming in Johnson County. The event will be held August 11th at the Quail Ridge Pavilion in North Liberty. This is a family-friendly fundraising event, accepting at-will donations at the entrance. Raffle prizes will be awarded throughout the event and food trucks serving up delicious fare. Local band “HomeBrewed” has donated their time and talent to perform from 3-5 pm, with Mike Haverkamp opening from 2-3pm.
DVIP is appealing to the community to raise the remaining money needed for a new 15 passenger van. “While we have secured $10,000 towards a new van with the help of community members and grants from Walmart and West Bank, we are in need of your help to raise the remaining $4,000 to support the future of youth programming at DVIP” reports Ashlee Hopkins of DVIP. The DVIP shelter hosts 20 kids on any given day. Youth advocates at the shelter create planned activities allowing kids who have been through crisis to have experiences that might not otherwise be available to their families, promote engaged education, and create relationships that foster safety. The current DVIP van was donated over 15 years ago and unfortunately, it is unreliable and cannot be used consistently anymore. A shelter Youth Coordinator stated “When the van won’t start or heat up properly, our youth activities are limited to the shelter. Our van gives us the freedom to have fun like any other family, just like our kids deserve.”
The North Liberty Community Pantry provides over 352,000 pounds of food and toiletries annually to local families in Johnson County. Nearly 1,000 people served at the Pantry are children. NLCP not only provides food but also children’s clothing and other essential items including over 3,000 pairs of socks and underwear and over 400 winter coats to children and individuals in need.
This unique partnership between DVIP and NLCP will allow all money raised at the Philanthro-Jam Benefit Concert to be split equally among the two programs for child-focused serves. Please join NLCP and DVIP at Quail Ridge Park Pavilion on August 11th, 2019 from 2-5pm. If you cannot attend but would like to donate to empowering youth in our community please visit www.dvipiowa.org/donate, select other and comment “youth programming” or text “Youth-Jam” to 44-321 or call 319-359-9353.
