The Domestic Violence Intervention Program (DVIP) is facing a 15-22% funding cut and is in need of alternative revenue sources to fill the funding gap.
Because of this, DVIP is partnering with local artists for a punk rock show fundraiser at the James Theater on June 24th at 7:00 PM. Tickets are $22 advance, $25 at the door. All proceeds benefit victim/survivors in our community.
The show is being produced by Mark Nolte and Joe Moreland who mockingly call themselves Loose Nut Productions, and will feature the following artists:
Dave Zollo and the Body Electric covering The Blasters
Ready, Cassette, Go Go covering the Go-Go’s
City Park covering X
Plastic Relations covering Social Distortion
“These funding cuts are coming at a very challenging time,” said Alta Medea, Director of Community Engagement. “We continue to see an uptick in the need for our services. If we don’t fill this funding gap, there will be a drastic reduction in the number of victim/survivors we are able to serve.”
Medea noted that DVIP is not the only program that will experience cuts. “This is a dire situation not just for our organization, but for all victim service organizations in Iowa. Because of these cuts, 28,000 crime victims across the state will not receive services.”
“We’re grateful to the community partners who have stepped up to help us offset this revenue loss,” said Medea.
“We want to have a big old fun Punk Rock Show to commemorate making it through the last two years,” said Moreland about Nolte and himself. “Big shout out to these incredible local bands who immediately volunteered to support DVIP by covering First Wave LA Punk Bands,” he added. Nolte, who is also the lead singer of City Park and co-owner of the James Theater with his wife, Leslie, loves the idea of playing punk rock to support DVIP. “It is so Punk Rock to support DVIP,” offered Nolte.
The show on June 24th has doors opening at 6:30 pm with the first band taking the stage at 7:00 pm.
