Introducing: Why The Work Matters, A New Podcast From DVIP & RVAP Crisis Services

We’re proud to announce the launch of Why the Work Matters, a new podcast by DVIP & RVAP Crisis Services. This series is dedicated to lifting up the voices of those who have worked on the front lines and behind the scenes of anti-violence work in Southeast Iowa.

At DVIP & RVAP, we provide comprehensive, trauma-informed support to individuals impacted by domestic violence, sexual violence, dating violence, stalking, and human trafficking. Our services span across eight counties in Iowa: Johnson, Iowa, Cedar, Des Moines, Henry, Lee, Van Buren, and Washington. And behind every hotline call answered, every shelter bed made, and every court date supported, there are real people who believe in the power of advocacy, in the strength of survivors, and in building safer communities for all.

Why the Work Matters explores the stories behind the mission—stories of resilience, healing, and the people who make change possible. In each episode, we sit down with current and former staff, volunteers, board members, and members of the community to reflect on the challenges, lessons, and moments that have defined their work and shaped our organization.

You’ll hear powerful first-hand accounts from those who’ve stood beside survivors in their most vulnerable moments. You’ll gain insight into how advocacy has evolved over the years, and you’ll learn why this work—this often quiet, behind-the-scenes labor—is essential.
