Over the past year, DVIP/RVAP: Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault Crisis Services has continued to expand on our monumental growth, providing both immediate and long-term crisis support services to 3490 victim-survivors across our eight-county service region. Each victim-survivor of domestic violence, sexual violence, stalking, dating violence, and human trafficking who reaches out to our hotline seeking help relies on the sustainability and continued presence of our services in their immediate community.
Included in this expansion is the addition of a transitional housing program: The Row, the units for which are currently under construction and are set to open to clients as of August 2026. With a total of 6 townhouse units (2 triplexes), The Row will expand DVIP/RVAP’s capacity to serve Johnson County residents by providing up to three years of equitable, stable housing paired with other comprehensive services needed for victim-survivors to rebuild their lives.
According to the 2023 Johnson County Housing Report, there are only 18 affordable and available units for every 100 extremely low-income households in Johnson County, meaning Johnson County is short 8,205 affordable rental units for this income level.
Last year, we served over a thousand Johnson County residents and were proud to provide safe, permanent housing to 78% of them. We want to get that number even higher and work toward a Johnson County with enough affordable housing for all.
The Row directly addresses this gap by establishing the county’s first transitional housing program specifically for survivors of domestic or sexual violence. The Row strengthens the entire community by improving public safety, reducing homelessness, and easing the strain on emergency services.
We are partnering with the amazing Houses into Homes to furnish and decorate all six units. Each unit will require durable and reliable furnishings, preferably art or decorations, one queen-sized bed, two twin bunk beds, a kitchen table with chairs, and living room furniture (couches, chairs, end tables), etc. See our full furniture drive wishlist below!
All items can be new or used in good condition. Request a pickup or drop-off donation at housesintohomes.org. Call/text 319.359.9353 with any questions.
