Rotary AM Iowa City Club Provides Shoes
Through the Rotary District 6000 grant, the Tuesday AM Rotary of Iowa City has provided approximately 50 pairs of new shoes and socks for the children who have stayed at our shelter since September of 2021. The AM Rotary offered three times to give shoes and they were received in September, November and February. This allowed us to reach more children throughout the months as the average stay is 45 days in our emergency shelter.
DVIP is so thankful for this project. When victim-survivors come to our shelter they often leave with only the clothes on their backs. With donations from community members we are able to provide the necessities such as hygiene products, food, and clothing. Due to the nature of the unexpected and emergency arrivals to our shelter we rarely have new shoes and socks in the correct size and desired color when a child arrives.
This project has not only provided new shoes to children but has also been a source of empowerment and dignity for the children! They were so excited to be able to get shoes in their favorite colors and their parents were incredibly grateful too. Thank you to all those who made the project possible and to the AM Rotary.
