How to Contact Your Legislator!
There are so many ways to make your voice heard! Legislators want to know what is important to you, it helps them understand what their constituents want from them.
Quick Tips:
Call, email or send a letter: Just a quick note to your legislator to let them know funding for victim services is important to you. For example,
“State funding must be maintained for sexual assault and domestic violence programs.”
“Our community needs services to ensure victims of domestic violence have a safe place to go and support to make the really difficult decisions they face. Please don’t cut victim services.”
“Without state funding, services to rural communities will almost cease to exist. This will impact approximately 800 families seeking safety from brutal crimes.”

Here’s the bottom line:
There are discussions about the upcoming budget and some well positioned committee members are recommending a 26% cut to victim services in Iowa. This would be 1.7 million dollars annually.
Iowa is proud to have one of the strongest victim service program networks in the country. State dollars make our nationally recognized model work. Victim service agencies cannot operate their programs without state funding. But just as importantly federal grants require state matching funds and many cannot be used to support the operational needs of victim services agencies. So, if we lose state funds, we will also lose federal funds.
Loss in state funds would likely be $72,000 for DVIP, but it would also impact about $100,000 in current federal funds.
Approximately 696victims in our service area are likely to go completely without emergency services of any kind if we lose this funding.
